COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans decreased a net of $151 million at weekly
reporting large commercial banks during the week ended December 22.
The principal net decreases were $124 million in loans to retail trade,
$156 million to communications, and $96 million to manufacturers of machinery.
The larger offsetting net increases were $106 million in loans to "other"
public utilities, and $91 million to unclassified borrowers.
