COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans decreased a net of $244 million at weeklyreporting large commercial banks during the week ended August 2.
, , . , / ^ e principal net decreases were $106 million in loans to the mining industry,
which includes producers of petroleum and natural gas, $89 million to petroleum
refiners, and $59 million to manufacturers of chemicals and rubber products.
The larger offsetting net increases were $79 million in loans to
commodity dealers, $38 million in bankers' acceptances, and $37 million to retail trade.
