INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $214 million at weekly
reporting large commercial banks during the week ended August 16.
The principal net increases were $74 million in loans for retail trade,
$63 million in loans for construction and $61 million in loans to manufacturers of
machinery.
The largest offsetting net decrease was $ 92 million in all other loans.
