COMMERCIAL AMD INDUSTRIAL LOAMS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans decreased a net of $45 million at weekly
reporting large commercial banks during the week ended August 10.
The principal net decreases were $42 million in loans to retail trade, $34
million to transportation, communication, and other public utilities, and $62 m i i n ^ to
unclassified loans.
The larger offsetting net increases were $46 million in loans to manufacturers
of machinery and $4l million to manufacturers of textiles, apparel, and leather products.
Outstanding loans and changes from a week ago and a year ago are shown below;
cumulative changes since mid-year and during the comparable period last year are shown
in the last two columns.
