INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY
Commercial and industrial loans decreased a net of $1 million at
weekly reporting large commercial banks during the week ended August 4.
The principal net decreases were $117 million in loans to transportation,
and $74 million to the mining industry (including petroleum and natrual gas).
The larger offsetting net increases were $92 million in loans to retail
trade, and $81 million to "other public utilities".

COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL TERM LOANS OUTSTANDING BY INDUSTRY

Total business term loams were $32,236 million as of July. This was an
increase of $125 million over the comparable data a year ago and an increase of $70
million from the last Wednesday in June.
The principal net changes in term loans during July were $52 million in
loans to manufacturers of primary metals, $46 million to "other public utilities",
and $62 million to all other types of business concerns.
The total of all business term loans on July 28 represented approximately
48 per cent of total of business loans outstanding at large commercial banks
reporting in the series.
