COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LOANS OUTSTANDING BY BTCXJSTRY

Commercial and industrial loans increased in eleven districts and a net
of $644 million at weekly reporting large commercial "banks during the week ended
April 19.
The principal net increases were $ 1 5 8 million in loans to manufacturers
of machinery, $122 million to retail trade, $79 million to manufacturers of chemicals
and rubber products, and $ 6 5 million to unclassified "borrowers#
The largest offsetting net decrease was $ 5 6 million in loans to manufacturers
of transportation equipment.
