Consumer instalment credit outstanding in April inertease 0.7 per cent,
after a decline the month previous. All the major categories of consumer credit
showed seasonal increases for the month of April, including ciedit on retail
passenger cars which had declined in the preceding four month:
Extensions of consumer instalment credit were 14.2 per cent greater than
last month. Larger than seasonal increases in extensions of personal loans and

other retail consumer goods contributed the bulk of this grow th
consumer credit were 1.4 per cent greater than in March. Decijieases in retail
passenger cars and mobile homes were offset by increases in the -other three
credit categories.

during April. Seasonal increases in retail paper on business, industrial and farm
