FEDERAL RESERVE "CONSUMER INSTALMENT CREDIT AT COMMERCIAL BANKS SEPTEMBER 1970 Consumer instalment credit outstanding at commercial banks increased $117 million in September to $42,051 million at the month-end. /"The expansion in credit card and personal loan indebtedness more than offset the reduction in automobile credit Home repair loans were up slightly during the month but at the month-end were the only major type of credit which did not exceed th6 amount outstanding a year earlier. Total consumer instalment loans made in September were in about the same volume as in August.
