APRIL 1964

,Consumer i n s t a l m e n t c r e d i t a t commercial banks r o s e $305
m i l l i o n in April and a t month-end amounted to $22,224 m i l l i o n .
Automobile c r e d i t accounted f o r t w o - t h i r d s of the t o t a l r i s e and
p e r s o n a l loans about o n e - t h i r d while the other major types o f . c r e d i t
showed r e l a t i v e l y small changes.
Banks extended $2,153 m i l l i o n i n i n s t a l m e n t c r e d i t i n
A p r i l , $147 m i l l i o n more than i n t h e preceding month and $25 m i l l i o n
above the volume a year e a r l i e r . All types of loans c o n t r i b u t e d t o
the March-to-April i n c r e a s e i n c r e d i t e x t e n s i o n s .
