Consumer i n s t a l m e n t c r e d i t h e l d by commercial banks a t
t h e end of November amounted t o $ 1 6 , 8 3 6 m i l l i o n , $ 4 1 m i l l i o n l e s s
t h a n a t t h e end of O c t o b e r . Automobile c r e d i t c o n t i n u e d t o
i n c r e a s e , "but o t h e r t y p e s of c r e d i t d e c l i n e d f r o m t h e p r e c e d i n g
month. The d e c r e a s e i n o t h e r consumer goods p a p e r r e f l e c t e d
s u b s t a n t i a l r e p a y m e n t s , i n c l u d i n g repayments on a l a r g e p u r c h a s e
of p a p e r made i n J a n u a r y 1 9 6 1 .
E x t e n s i o n s of c r e d i t d u r i n g November were s m a l l e r t h a n
i n O c t o b e r , b u t c o n t i n u e d above t h e y e a r - a g o volume.
