FEDERAL - RESERVE - a # , statistical release /3s: February 5, 1964 CONSUMER INSTALMENT/CREDIT AT COMMERCIAL BANKS DECEMBER 1963 Consumer instalment credit held by commercial banks at the end of December is estimated at $21,610 million, $2,605 million above the total a year ago and $124 million more than at the end of November. All major types of credit outstanding at year-end were substantially higher than a year earlier except for repair and modernization loans, all balances v;ere larger than at the end of November. Extensions of instalment credit by commercial banks totaled $1,839 million, 11 per cent above a year earlier and 7 per cent higher than in November.
