OCTOBER 1959

Consumer instalment c r e d i t held "by commercial "banks a t the end of October amounted to $l4 817 m i l l i o n $153 m i l l i o n above
the l e v e l • a month e a r l i e r . Each type of c r e d i t was up from a
month ago, but more than half of the/monthly expansion occurred
in automobil'S^credit. Total balances continued s u b s t a n t i a l l y
above a year ago.
Extensions of c r e d i t increased $9 m i l l i o n in October }
r e f l e c t i n g increases in a l l c a t e g o r i e s except personal l o a n s .
