t o $31,967 m i l l i o n a t t h e end of F e b r u a r y , r e p r e s e n t i n g a d e c l i n e of $66 m i l l i o n
durj.n^ the month. Automobile paper d e c r e a s e d f u r t h e r w i t h a g r e a t e r r e d u c t i o n in
t h e amount owed on purchased paper than on d i r e c t l o a n s . On t h e o t h e r hand, i n d e b t e d n e s s on nonautomotive consumer goods c o n t i n u e d t o i n c r e a s e . A l l t y p e s of
c r e d i t c o n t r i b u t e d t o the expansion of $2,655 m i l l i o n f o r t h e y e a r ending
February 2 8 .
The F e b r u a r y c o n t r a c t i o n i n volume of l o a n s e x t e n d e d - - $ 1 1 7 m i l l i o n - - w a s
p a r t i a l l y s e a s o n a l in c h a r a c t e r . Only consumer goods c r e d i t and, t o a l e s s e x t e n t ,
personal- l o a n s made were in l a r g e r volume than i n F e b r u a r y l a s t y e a r .
