Retail Instalment Credit at Furniture and Household Appliance Stores

Instalment accounts outstanding a"t furniture stores decreased
seasonally in_ January, Balances at the month-end. were about 5 per cent
below those of the preceding month and about 6 per cent beitovr the level
of a year ago.

Household appliance store instalment accounts outstanding also
showed a seasonal decline during the month, bringing the total to a level
aboyt 2 per cent below that of December, I.'onth-end balances continued
substantially/ below those of a year 'ago.
The January collection ratio for both furniture and household
appliance stores was unchanged from December. It was - also unchanged from
a year ago for household appliance scores{ however, the January ratio
for furniture stores was one point above' that of a year ago.
