DEPARTMENT STORE CREDIT - NOVEMBER 1956
Instalment accounts outstanding a t department s t o r e s i n creased k per cent in November, when some r i s e i s customary, and
were ll; per cent above a year e a r l i e r . The November c o l l e c t i o n r a t i o
i s estimated a t 16 per c e n t , 1 point more than both a month ago and a
year ago.

Charge accounts r e c e i v a b l e a l s o i n c r e a s e d , and a t t h e end
of t h e month showed i n c r e a s e s ' of 10 per cent and h per cent from a
month ago and a year ago, r e s p e c t i v e l y . C o l l e c t i o n s on charge accounts
during November amounted t o h? per cent of f i r s t - o f - m o n t h b a l a n c e s , t h e
same as in October, but 1 point l e s s t h a n a - y e a r ago.
T o t a l s a l e s a t r e p o r t i n g department s t o r e s were up 19 per cent
from October t o November, r e f l e c t i n g i n c r e a s e s i n a l l t y p e s of s a l e s .
Both cash and charge-account: s a l e s were 3 per cent above a year e a r l i e r
and instalment s a l e s were 11 per cent higher- t h a n i n November 1955•
