above t h e y e a r ago l e v e l . C o l l e c t i o n s on i n s t a l m e n t accounts i n
June were 15> per c e n t of f i r s t-of-mo nth b a l a n c e s , the same as i n the
previous month.
Charge account r e c e i v a b l e s decreased 2 per cent during
June, and were 1 p e r cent below t h e year ago l e v e l . C o l l e c t i o n s on
t h e s e accounts amounted to it? per c e n t of .first-o.f-month b a l a n c e s .
T o t a l s a l e s a t r e p o r t i n g department s t o r e s were 9 per cent
below t h e previous month, r e f l e c t i n g decreases i n both cash and c r e d i t
s a l e s . T o t a l s a l e s were It per c e n t below the volume i n June 195>7.
