R e t a i l f u r n i t u r e s t o r e sales showed a considerably smaller
seasonal r i s e than i s uSual from July t o August. ' Cash s a l e s remained a t
the July l e v e l , - while c f e d i t s a l e s increased somewhat during the month.
I n s t a Intent salds were izl about the same volume as a year ago, and cash
and ch&rgc-account s a l e s wore s l i g h t l y higher tha'n i n August l a s t y e a r .
I n v e n t o r i e s increased f u r t h e r i n August, and were seven per
cent l a r g e r than those hold a year ago. At the end of the month they
amounted t o ti - t i t t l e riofe than f o u r months' supply a t the current r a t e "

Instalment accounts r e c e i v a b l e a t the end of August were s l i g h t l y
lower than on July 31, but i n about t h e same volume as l a s t y e a r . The
August c o l l e c t i o n r o t i o on instalment accounts was 23 per cent^ one
point below t h a t f o r t h e corresponding month of-1944. TheTse accounts
were outstanding, on the average, approximately seven and one-half months,
a somewhat longer period t h a n i n August '1944,
