t BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL ilESERVE SYSTEM ^ January 8, 1953 RETAIL FURNITURE REPORT FOR NOVEI3ER 1952 Total s a l e s a t f u r n i t u r e s t o r e s in November decreased 5 per cent f r o n the preceding month, r e f l e c t i n g d e c l i n e s of 6 per cent in instalment s a l e s , 2 per cent in charge-account s a l e s , and 1 per cent in cash s a l e s . Total s a l e s were up s l i g h t l y f r o n a year ago, however, as a r e s u l t of a y e a r - t o - y e a r gain of 7 per cent in instalment s a l e s . Cash and charge-account s a l e s in .iovei.foer were oelov: a year e a r l i e r . Instalment accounts r e c e i v a b l e increased 3 per cent d u r ing November, ana a t the month-end were 18 per cent, above the l e v e l of a year ago. Collections on t h e s e accounts decreased 2 per cent f r o n the preceding month. The r e t a i l value November 30 was 1 per cent but was h per cent below a stocks on hand amounted t o of i n v e n t o r i e s a t above t h a t of the year ago.
