REPORT FOR DECEMBER 1965

URNITUE

Instalment accounts receivable of reporting furniture stores increased
6 per cent in December, in line with seasonal -expectations. As in past years,
the rate at which these accounts were being repaid slackened somewhat from
November.
Charge-account balances were also tip 6 per cent during the month, but
fell slightly below the level for the corresponding date last year.
Furniture store sales of all types moved up sharply as is usual in
December. Cash volume showed the strongest advance during the month as well as
for the year as a whole. Both instalment and charge account sales for 1965 also
were well above the 1964 totals.
