FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF NEW YORK r Circular No. 2 6 8 9 1 L September 9, 1943 J POSTAL UNIT NUMBERING SYSTEM To all Member Banks and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District: In view of the establishment by the United States Post Office Department of a "Postal Unit Numbering System" whereby, in order to facilitate the distribution of incoming mail in certain cities, numbers have been assigned to postal delivery units in such cities, it is requested that all mail addressed to the head office of this bank or the Buffalo Branch contain the appropriate postal unit number as indicated below: Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Federal Reserve P. 0. Station, New York 7, N. Y. Buffalo Branch, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 270 Main Street, Buffalo 2, N. Y. Mail intended for a particular department (including the Savings Bond Redemption Department at 51 Pine Street and the Foreign Funds Control Department at 70 Pine Street) should be addressed as above and the name of the department should be added at the lower left-hand corner of the envelope. In order that we may revise our mailing lists to include the appropriate postal unit numbers in addresses to which numbers have been assigned, we are enclosing with each copy of this circular mailed to cities where numbers have been assigned, a self-addressed post card containing the mailing address of the addressee as it appears on our mailing list. It will be appreciated if each recipient of such a card will insert the appropriate number in such address and return the card to us. "Whenever you send us a communication which may require a reply, please insert the appropriate postal unit number in your return address on each such communication. Whenever you send us the application of a third person for the issuance, exchange or redemption of United States Government obligations, or any other communication requiring us to communicate with a third person, please endeavor to have the appropriate postal unit number included in such person's mailing address.
