SOURCES OF PERSONAL INCOME
Personal income rose $10.7 billion (annual rate) in April, following a rise of $5.9 billion in March. The increases
were affected by two special factors: Subsidy payments to farmers affected both the March and April changes,
and an initial payment to a newly established retirement savings fund for Federal Government employees affected
the April change. Excluding these special factors, personal income increased $17.7 billion in April and $12.3 billion
in March.

Data are prorated averages of Wednesday figures for domestically chartered banks and averages
of month-end data for foreign-related institutions. Data beginning January 1984 are not strictly
comparable with data for earlier periods, largely because beginning January 1984 certain obligation's
of States and political subdivisions are included in loans rather than in other securities.
2
Excludes loans to commercial banks in the United States.
