SOURCES OF PERSONAL INCOME
Personal income rose $16.8 billion (annual rate) in June, following a decline of $17.3 billion in May. The May
decline was from an unusually high April level that was due to two special factors—an unusually large increase in
subsidy payments to farmers and a retroactive wage payment to Postal Service employees. Excluding these special
factors, personal income increased $15.6 billion in June, $12.8 billion in May, and $7.4 billion in April.

DISPOSITION OF PERSONAL INCOME
Disposable personal income rose $79.8 billion (annual rate) in the second quarter compared with a $10.3 billion
rise in the first quarter. If there had not been a delay in Federal income tax refunds (from the first quarter to the
second quarter), disposable income would have risen $24.6 billion in the second quarter and $37.9 billion in the
first quarter.
