F ederal reserve Bank OF DALLAS Dallas, Texas, June 26, 1964 To All Banks in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District: It has come to our attention th a t the Division of Disbursement, United States Treasury, is issuing certain card checks which are drawn payable in Mexican pesos rather than in United States dollars. The checks referred to are drawn on the First National City Bank, Mexico, D. F., Mexico, United States Depositary. These checks closely resemble the regular Treasury checks in color and appearance, and they are amount-punched in the same columns as are the regular checks. Also, the amount shown in figures is preceded by the dollar ($) sign. Steps are being taken imme diately, however, to change the color of the checks so th at they will not resemble either the green or buff Treasury checks. It will probably be sometime in July before this can be done. The checks may be distinguished by the wording in the body “PAGUESE EN PESOS” (pay in pesos). Banks receiving such checks are cautioned to observe them carefully in order to avoid handling them incorrectly or making payment in United States dollars for the amount shown in pesos. It is suggested th at these checks be collected through the usual commercial bank channels for the collection of items payable in foreign countries. Yours very truly, W atrous H.
