FED ERAL R ESER VE B AN K O F D A L L A S F I S C A L A G E N T O F T H E U N IT E D S T A T E S Dallas, Texas, December 18,1946 DATING OF UNITED STATES SAVINGS BONDS To All Issuing Agents of United States Savings Bonds in the Eleventh Federal Reserve District: The experience of this bank at the beginning of each new year prompts us to bring to the attention of issuing agents the importance of changing the year dates in their validating stamps from 1946 to 1947 after December 31. Also care should be taken in inscribing the issue dates on bonds issued on or after January 1,1947. Precaution in these respects will avoid to a great extent the necessity of recalling many bonds for reissue due to incorrect dating. If a bond is inadverently issued showing the year in the issue date as 1946 instead of 1947, the bond and corresponding stub should, be treated as spoiled in the process of issue and a correctly dated bond issued. No attempt should be made to correct a bond incorrectly dated. While in most cases the rubber dates originally furnished issuing agents included a date for the year 1947, any agent needing a 1947 insert should secure one from this bank or appropriate branch in advance of January 1.
