Preface

This bulletin describ es the health and life insurance
benefits extended in e a r ly 1968 to r e tir e d w ork ers age 65
and o v er and the health benefits fo r active w ork ers in that
age group.
It supplements B ulletin 1502, D igest of 100
Selected Health and Insurance Plans Under C o llec tiv e B a r
gaining, E a r ly 1966" published In Septem ber 1966.
It
also updates the benefits fo r r e tir e e s d escrib ed in Bulletin
1330, D igest o f One Hundred Selected Health and Insu r
ance Plans Under C o llec tiv e Bargaining, W inter 1961-62.
The 98 plans in this supplement w ere included in B ul
letin 1502; a ll except one o f them w ere also in Bulletin
1330.
They are not presen ted as typ ica l or m odel plans,
nor as a sam ple rep resen ta tive of a ll plans under c o lle c
tive bargaining.
They w ere selected fo r previou s digests
because they co vere d la rg e numbers of w ork ers in m ajor
industries, or because of their in terest to the gen eral
public, as evidenced in inquiries re c e iv e d by the Bureau.
The number o f w ork ers co vered ranged fro m about one
thousand to s e v e ra l hundred thousand.
P r iv a te plan benefits supplement M ed ica re benefits.
F o r a detailed description of s e rv ic e s co vere d and benefits
provid ed by M e d ic a re, see Your M ed icare Handbook: Health
Insurance Under Social S ecu rity, published by the Social
