outgoing member chooses at least one medal from a program that was reviewed
during the member’s tenure. Erik chose the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Congressional
Gold Medal honoring New York and depicting inversing buildings.
4. April Stafford presented the designs for the 2020 American Innovation $1 Coin –
Connecticut.
a. Erik Jansen began discussion focusing on the USS Nautilus and discussion
followed. Donald Scarinci preferred not to recommend themes based on
the Military, therefore he suggested the Gerber scale, and recommended a
focus on an emblematic series of objects.
b. The discussion on themes was very positive for Connecticut; it would
include the Colt Armory, Gerber Scale, and the USS Nautilus. Erik
Jansen made a motion to present 2 designs as favorable, CT-01 and CT16. Motion was seconded by Mike Moran. Motion Passed

7. The designs for the 2020 American Innovation $1 Coin for South Carolina feature
Septima Clark (the Governor’s Office’s preferred theme) and the maser. Of the
designs SC-02 is preferred. The committee focused on designs SC-01, SC-02, SC03 as well as SC-07. Maser was a very difficult topic to depict on a coin. Dennis
Tucker mentioned that selecting a figure over an object compliments the first year
of the coins as the year’s coins would depict three objects and one person.

8. We were once again privileged to review designs for two congressional gold
medals. The first was the design for the USS Indianapolis Congressional Gold
Medal. The liaisons reflected on the significance of the medal and stated their
preference was IND-O-07 and IND-R-07. The committee discussed the other
designs and made comments, particularly on IND-O-09 and IND-R-05.
Ultimately the committee recommended to the liaisons both designs, leaving the
recommendation to the stakeholder.
9. The second Congressional Gold Medal was for the recognition of Chinese
American Veterans of World War II. The congressionally appointed liaison was
present along with several other members of the Chinese American Citizens
Alliance. Director Ryder also participated in our meeting by welcoming the
delegation and expressing his thoughts on the tribute as well as the sacrifice of the
WWII Chinese American Veterans. The preference of the liaison is design CAVO-07 paired with CAV-R-06A.
10. Chairperson Thomas Uram adjourned the meeting at 2:20p.m. EST
