The Honorable Timothy F. Geithner
Secretary of the Treasury
Department of the Treasury
1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20220
Dear Secretary Geithner:
A public meeting of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (Committee) was held on
Monday, June 27, 2011, on the campus of Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Committee reviewed proposed designs for the reverse of the 2012 Native American $1
Coin.
After reviewing thirteen (13) candidate designs, the Committee recommended design 2012NA-08. The design, which garnered 17 of the 18 possible points through the Committee’s
scoring process, shows a horse and a Native American. The Committee felt the two images
appropriately characterized the 2012 design theme of “Trade Routes in the 17th Century” by
illustrating the relationship between the horse and Native Americans. Artistically, the design is
well-rendered with large clear images and, as a result, will produce a highly attractive reverse
design of the 2012 Native American $1 Coin.
Sincerely,

Gary B. Marks
Chair
