1. Chairperson Marks called the meeting to order at 6:33 P.M.
2. Using visuals in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Marks reported on
the process leading to the publication of the Committee’s January 19, 2011 report,
A Blueprint for Advancing Artistic Creativity and Excellence in United States
Coins and Medals: Analysis and Recommendations (Blueprint). Mr. Marks’
presentation also described recommendations contained in the Blueprint and steps
being taken by the United States Mint to implement elements of the
recommendations.
3. The letters and minutes of the May 25, 2011 meeting were unanimously
approved.
4. Ron Harrigal of the United States Mint presented the candidate designs for the
reverse of the 2012 Native American $1 Coin.
5. After each member had commented on the candidate designs, Committee
members rated proposed designs by assigning 0, 1, 2, or 3 points to each, with
higher points reflecting more favorable evaluations. With six (6) members voting
and one (1) member abstaining, the maximum possible point total was 18. The
committee’s scores for the reverse of the 2012 Native American $1 Coin were:

Following the scoring process, a motion by Mr. Olson, and seconded by Mr.
Jansen, to recommend that Design 2012-NA-11 be designated as the Committee’s
recommended design was denied on a vote of two (2) ayes, four (4) nays, and one
(1) abstention.
6. In preparation for its FY2011 Annual Report, the Committee sought input from
audience members concerning suggested themes for commemorative programs to
be potentially recommended for FY2015 and FY2016. Audience members
suggested themes related to the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War and
honoring President Ronald Reagan.
7. In reference to the “Visual Definition of Coin Design Excellence” (Visual
Definition) that was adopted by the Committee at its June 28, 2010 meeting, Mr.
Marks recommended the Committee recognize the excellent design of the recently
released National September 11th Memorial and Museum Commemorative Medal
by adding it to the Visual Definition. After a discussion on Mr. Marks’
recommendation, a motion by Ms. Wastweet, and seconded by Mr. Jansen, to add
the National September 11th Memorial and Museum Commemorative Medal to
the Committee’s Visual Definition was unanimously approved.
8. There being no further business, Chairperson Marks adjourned the meeting at
9:03 P.M.
