Dear Secretary Lew:
A public meeting of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (Committee) was held on
Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at United States Mint Headquarters in Washington, DC. The
Committee reviewed proposed obverse and reverse designs for Code Talkers Congressional
Gold Medals for the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribe, Cherokee Nation, Ho-Chunk
Nation, Meskwaki Nation, Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, Yankton Sioux Tribe and Oglala
Sioux Tribe.
For the medal honoring the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribe Code Talkers, the
Committee recommended Obverse-01. The design received 25 of the possible 27 scoring
points through the Committee’s design evaluation process. Reverse 03 received 26 of the
possible 27 scoring points and is the Committee’s strong recommendation for this medal.
The Committee assigned 18 of the possible 27 scoring points to Obverse 05 for the Cherokee
Nation Code Talkers thereby giving it the Committee’s recommendation. Reverse 03 for the
Cherokee Nation Code Talkers received the Committee’s recommendation by accumulating 24
of the possible 27 scoring points through the evaluation process.
For the medal honoring Ho-Chuck Nation Code Talkers, the Committee recommended
Obverse 07 after it garnered 21 of the possible 27 scoring points. For the reverse of the HoChunk Nation medal, the Committee strongly recommends Reverse 01. This design received
26 of the 27 possible scoring points.
The Committee recommends Obverse 04 for the medal honoring Meskwaki Nation Code
Talkers. This design received 20 of the possible 27 scoring points. Reverse 03 for the
Meskwaki Nation Code Talkers received the Committee’s recommendation having garnered 24
of the possible 27 scoring points.
Obverse 01 for the medal honoring the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma Code Talkers received a
perfect evaluation score of 27 and carries the Committee’s strongest possible recommendation.
For the reverse, the Committee recommends Reverse 03. This designed received 23 of the
possible 27 scoring points. The Committee subsequently voted unanimously to recommend
that the word “of” be added on the lower inner perimeter of Reverse 03 in front of the word

“Oklahoma” so that the complete inner inscription would read “Seminole Nation of
Oklahoma”.
For the medal honoring the Yankton Sioux Tribe Code Talkers, the Committee recommended
Obverse 04 after it received 24 of the possible 27 scoring points. For the reverse of the
Yankton Sioux Tribe medal, the Committee recommends Reverse 02. This design
accumulated 20 of the possible 27 scoring points.
The Committee assigned 23 of the possible 27 scoring points to Obverse 01 for the medal
honoring the Oglala Sioux Tribe Code Talkers thereby giving it the Committee’s
recommendation. Reverse 03 for the Oglala Sioux Code Talkers received the Committee’s
recommendation by accumulating 24 of the possible 27 scoring points through the evaluation
process. The Committee subsequently voted unanimously to recommend that the inscription,
“World War II” appearing on lower perimeter of Reverse 03 be removed.
