Sorry, I've never had that problem Anyway, April, could you give us your report? MS. STAFFORD: Yes, sir. Thank you. The United States Mint has developed designs for a medal honoring Israeli President Shimon Peres in anticipation of President Obama signing in to law H.R. 20 -(Telephone interruption.) MR. MARKS: Hello? (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 8 UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: MR. MARKS: Hello. Hello? I think -- I'm not sure what happened There was some beeping noise on the line, but please go ahead, April. MS. STAFFORD: Okay. Thank you. I'll start again. The United States Mint has developed (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 9 designs for a medal honoring Israeli President Shimon Perez in anticipation of President Obama signing into law H.R. 2939, a Bill to award a Congressional Gold Medal to President Shimon Peres. If President Obama signs the Bill into law, it will require the Secretary of the Treasury to strike the gold medal with suitable emblems, devices and inscriptions. It will also authorize the Secretary to strike and make available for sale bronze medals that bear the likeness of the Shimon Perez Congressional Gold Medal. If H.R. 2939 is enacted, the Inscription Act of Congress, 2014, will be included on the reverse design. This inscription is depicted on each reverse candidate design as a placeholder to indicate the suggested font and text location. So I'll start with the designs. Obverse one features a portrait of Israeli President Shimon Peres with the flag of Israel in the background. "Shimon Perez" is the inscription. Our liaison and advisor to President (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 10 Peres prefers this obverse design for its accurate depiction of President Peres. She does ask that the Mint slightly modify the flag in this design, however, noting the stripes are too thick proportionately to the Star of David. Reverses one and two depict a Dove of Peace with inscriptions based on President Peres' quotations. Our liaison reverse one for its inclusion of the inscription "You are as great as the cause you serve." So, Mr. Chairman, that concludes the designs as well as the design descriptions. MR. MARKS: Okay. With that -- I believe the members all received the email containing these images. UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: MR. MARKS: up. Yes. If you haven't, please speak And I guess at this point I'll ask if there are any comments on the designs presented to us. MR. JANSEN: What are the placeholder "xxx's" of the reverse again to be replaced with? MS. STAFFORD: The words "Act of Congress (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 11 2014," pending enactment of H.R. 2939. MR. JANSEN: Understood. MR. BUGEJA: Sorry, Gary, I'm late. had to find the call in number. MR. MARKS: coming on. Michael. Thank you. I Michael Bugeja. Thank you for We've worked ourselves through -- already have approved the letters from the previous meeting. April just gave us her report on the designs for the Shimon Peres Medal in question, and now I've just asked for any comments. MR. BUGEJA: Thank you, Gary. And again, my apologies. MR. MARKS: Are there any comments? MS. LANNIN: something. I just want to clarify Did April say "Act of Congress," 2013 or 2014? MS. STAFFORD: MS. LANNIN: 2014. MS. STAFFORD: Okay. And if I could just ask for our Court Reporter who is present, for those who speak, if you could please identify yourselves so she can take the notes. That would be great. (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 12 Thank you. MS. LANNIN: question of April. Sure. Mary had asked that I thought I heard you say "2013" instead of 2014. MR. MARKS: Okay. Hearing no other comments, I'll ask if there is a motion concerning these designs? MR. HOGE: I would like -- MR. MARKS: Robert? MR. SCARINCI: Can I make the motion to approve the designs that the Committee -- that the host has recommended? MR. MARKS: I am recognizing you now to do that, Donald. MR. SCARINCI: Donald Scarinci, making the motion to approve. MR. MARKS: MR. HOGE: MR. MARKS: Is there a second? I'll second. Okay. It's Robert. And I am assuming the motion is to approve obverse one and reverse one? MR. SCARINCI: MR. MARKS: Correct. And I'm sorry, who was the (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 13 second? seconded. MR. HOGE: Robert. MR. MARKS: Okay. Yes. It's been moved and Is there any further discussion? MS. STEVENS-SOLLMAN: Jeanne. Yes, this is I'm having a small problem with the tail of this bird -- of this dove. I'm not convinced, you know -- I'm not convinced we're looking at it correctly. I see this -- I don't know what you call this -- a lump above his feet that looks like maybe it should be a leg -- a leg -- or -- and then the tail feathers are not coming quite out of the back. So it looks like we're looking at the bottom -- or are we looking at the top? It's not convincing and I'm not sure if we have a staff mint artist available. Don? Is Don there to help me understand what I'm looking at? MR. EVERHART: Yes, I am here. This is Don Everhart. MS. STEVENS-SOLLMAN: MR. EVERHART: Hi, Don. Hi. (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 14 MR. MARKS: Hi, Don. MR. EVERHART: Hi. You're looking at the bottom of the tail feathers. MS. STEVENS-SOLLMAN: Okay. Could maybe the perspective be defined a little better so that it -- you know, it does look like that. I'm just - - there's like a few lines there that are confusing me to know that I'm looking at it from the bottom, not from the side or the top. It's not reading well, at least in my printout. MR. EVERHART: Okay. We'll take a look at that. MS. STEVENS-SOLLMAN: you. Thank you. Thank Otherwise -MR. HOGE: The feet come out of the lower leg area, too. MS. STEVENS-SOLOMAN: Yeah, Robert. I mean, it just doesn't seem like it's possible to do this. MR. MARKS: Okay. Are there any other comments or discussion? (No audible response.) (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 15 MR. MARKS: Okay. Hearing none, I'll call for the question -- all those in favor, please indicate by saying "aye." ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS: MR. MARKS: "Aye." Opposed? (No audible response.) MR. MARKS: unanimously. The motion carries I believe we've reached the end of our agenda for today. I want to thank everyone for being on the phone, and staff, is there anything more we need to do? MS. STAFFORD: Just a sincere "thank you" to all of the committee members for reviewing -doing this expedited review and comment. We, at the Mint, really appreciate it. MS. STEVENS-SOLLMAN: add one thing. And if I could just I'm wishing the Mint a huge success in this struggle because it was done on time. I know this is hard, so thank you for putting the designs in a simple way for us to see these. you very much, April. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think they're (866) 448 - DEPO www.CapitalReportingCompany.com © 2014 Thank Capital Reporting Company CCAC Public Meeting, United States Mint, June 2, 2014 16 rather pretty designs, too.
