1. Chairperson Lannin opened meeting at 1:00 pm.
2. Chair recognized and introduced the two newest Committee members, Steven Roach and
Dennis Tucker, and gave a brief overview of their backgrounds.
3. Committee member Michael Moran was congratulated on the publication of his newest book,
1849: The Philadelphia Mint Strikes Gold.
4. The minutes and letters of the October 27, 2015 meeting unanimously approved.
5. April Stafford of the United States Mint presented candidate designs for the 2017 Effigy
Mounds National Monument. Joining the meeting telephonically was Jim Nepstad of Effigy
Mounds National Monument.
After each member of the Committee had commented on the candidate designs, members rated
the designs by assigning 0, 1, 2 or 3 points to each, with higher points reflecting more favorable
evaluations. With nine of the eleven members voting, the maximum possible point total was
twenty-seven (27). By Committee rule, a majority of the maximum possible point total (i.e. 14)
was required to earn the Committee’s recommendation.

National Monument.

8. Chairperson Lannin asked if there was any further discussion on the designs. No further
comments were offered by Committee members.
9. The next meeting of the Committee will be on March 15, at the United States Mint
headquarters.
10. There being no further business, Chairperson Lannin adjourned the meeting at 2:20 pm.
