The Honorable Jack Lew
Secretary of the Treasury
Department of the Treasury
1500 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington D.C. 20220
Dear Secretary Lew:
A public meeting of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) was held on Wednesday,
June 17, 2015 to review proposed obverse and reverse designs for the Nancy Reagan First
Spouse Gold Coin and Medal. Mrs. Reagan preferred FS-NR-0-01 as the obverse. By a motion
of the Committee this design was selected. No reverse was chosen at this meeting in order to
enable further design work after input by Mrs. Reagan and her representatives at The Reagan
Foundation.
A telephonic meeting of the CCAC was then held on Monday, August 10, 2015, from the United
States Mint Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The CCAC reviewed the new reverse designs for
the Nancy Reagan First Spouse Gold Coin and Medal Program.
After a review of the designs, the CCAC voted with Mrs. Reagan’s wishes and chose FS-NR-R-01
for the reverse. This design features Mrs. Reagan with two children wearing shirts with the
motto “Just Say No” from her campaign against drug use. The CCAC recommends the artist
modify the design to make Mrs. Reagan’s hand positioning more realistic.
It has been a distinct honor for the CCAC and the United States Mint to have the opportunity
to interact with a living First Lady, and we believe that all Mrs. Reagan’s preferences are
addressed.
With kind regards, I am

Mary N. Lannin
Chair
Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee
