The F ebruary to M arch change in exports o f goods reflected
increases in in d u s tria l supplies a n d m aterials ($1.2 billion);
c a p ita l good s ($0.5 billion); fo o d s , feeds, an d beverages ($0.2

billion); and consum er good s ($0.2 billion). A decrease
occurred in a u tom otive vehicles, p a rts, a n d engines ($0.4
billion). O th e r good s w ere virtually unchanged.
The February to M arch change in im ports o f goods reflected
decreases in in d u s tria l supplies a n d m a te ria ls ($3.3 billion) and
au tom otive vehicles, p a rts , a n d engines
($0.8 billion).
Increases occurred in c a p ita l goods ($ 1.5 billion); consum er
goods ($0.9 billion); and fo o d s , feeds, an d beverages ($0.3
billion). O th e r go o d s w ere virtually unchanged.

Services
Services exports increased $0.4 b illion from February to M arch.
The largest increases w ere in o th e r p riv a te services (w hich includes
item s such as business, professional, and technical services,
insurance services, and financial services) and tra v e l. C hanges in
other categories o f services exports w ere small.
Services im ports decreased $0.1 b illion from F ebruary to M arch.
The decrease w as m ore than accounted for by a decrease in ro ya ltie s
an d license fees, w hich h ad been boosted in F ebruary by paym ents
for broadcast rights for the 2006 W inter O lym pic Games. A ll other
categories o f services im ports increased.
From M arch 2005 to M arch 2006, services exports increased
$1.2 billion. T he largest increases w ere in o th e r p riv a te services
($1.2 billion) and o th e r tra n s p o rta tio n , w hich includes freight and
po rt services ($0.3 billion).
F rom M arch 2005 to M arch 2006, services im ports increased
$1.4 billion. T he largest increases w ere in o th e r p riv a te services
($1.0 billion), o th e r tra n s p o rta tio n ($0.3 billion), and passenger
fa re s ($0.2 billion).

Goods an d Services M oving A verage
F or the three m onths ending in M arch, exports o f goods and
services averaged $113.8 billion, w hile im ports o f goods and
services averaged $179.2 billion, resulting in an average trade
deficit o f $65.4 billion. For the three m onths ending in February,
the average trad e deficit was $66.4 billion, reflecting average
exports o f $112.8 billion and average im ports o f$ 1 7 9 .2 billion.

the $ 18.4 b illion in February, w hile im ports w ere $5.5 billion m ore
than the $19.8 b illion in February.

Revisions
G oods carry-over in M arch w as $0.2 billion (0.2 percent) for
exports and $0.6 b illion (0.4 percent) for im ports. For February,
revised export carry-over w as $0.1 billion (0.2 percent), revised
do w n from $0.4 b illion (0.5 percent). F o r February, revised
im port carry-over w as $0.5 billion (0.3 percent), revised dow n
from $1.2 billion (0.9 percent).
Services exports for F ebruary w ere revised dow n $0.4 billion
to $32.1 billion; th e revision was m ore than accounted for by
dow nw ard revisions in tra v e l and passenger fa re s . Services
im ports for F eb ru ary w ere revised dow n $0.2 billion to $28.0
billion; the revision w as m ore than accounted for by dow nw ard
revisions in tra v e l and passenger fa re s .
