CONSUMER SPENDING RISES IN MAY

Personal income increased 0.4 percent in May after
increasing 0.5 percent in April. Wages and salaries, the
largest component of personal income, increased 0.5 percent
in May, the same as in April.
Real disposable personal income (DPI), income adjusted
for inflation and taxes, increased 0.5 percent in May
compared to a 0.6 percent increase in April.
Real consumer spending, spending adjusted for price
changes, was 0.3 percent in May.

PCE prices were flat in May and April. Excluding food and
energy, the PCE price index increased 0.2 percent in May
after rising 0.1 percent in April.

Personal saving rate
Personal saving as a percent of disposable personal income
was 4.0 percent in May, compared to 3.8 percent in April.
