chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia in 1989.
Gunnar E. Sarsten, chairman, president and chief executive officer of United Engineers
& Constructors, Inc., was named a Class C director, succeeding Nevius M. Curtis,

chairman and chiefexecutive officer ofDelmarva Power & Light Co. Sarsten was also designated

deputy chairman.

second term. Gary E. Burl, president of Delaware National Bank, was elected a Class A

director, succeeding Clarence D. McCormick, president of Farmers and Merchants National

and marketing andfinancial services. James F. Gaylord was named executive vice president

with responsibility for cash operations, human resources and support services. Edward M.

Mahon was promoted to vice president and general counsel, Benjamin Nadola moved up to

vice presidentfor check operations, and Theodore M. Crone was promoted to assistant vice
president and economist.
Ronald B. Lankford joined the Bank in 1989 as senior vice president, overseeing

the Treasury Direct, disaster recovery planning, quality assurance, accounting and business
planning and budget functions.
In changes of official assignments, Vice President John B. Shaffer assumed
responsibility for cash operations, Assistant Vice President Robert H. Klein joined check

operations in the adjustment, settlement and return items areas, and Vish P. Viswanathan

became deputy check product manager.

Executive Vice President Konstanty G. Adack and Senior Vice President and General
Counsel Hiliary H. Holloway both retired in 1989.
