Meetings in Mexico City

Washington – Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven T. Mnuchin joined U.S. Secretary of
State Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen, and Senior Advisor
to the President Jared Kushner to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and his
ministers, and with President-Elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and his key advisors.
Separately, Secretary Mnuchin met Secretary for Finance and Public Credit Jose Antonio
Gonzalez Anaya and with the proposed Secretary for Finance and Public Credit Carlos Urzua.
Secretary Mnuchin’s discussions focused on the United States’ continued strong engagement
with Mexico on a range of issues including combatting illicit finance and a shared commitment
to achieving strong and broad-based economic growth, trade, and security. The Secretary
conveyed that Mexico is a critical economic partner for the United States, and that he looks
forward to deepening Treasury’s comprehensive working relationships with his current and
prospective counterparts.
