federal R e s e r v e Ba n k of Dallas F IS C A L A G E N T O F T H E U N IT E D S T A T E S D A L L A S ,T E X A S 75222 Circular No. 72-228 October 11, 1972 To the Paying Agent Addressed: This refers to the processing of United States Savings Bonds of Series E and Savings Notes redeemed by your institution. At present we are crediting a correspondent member bank by name for the account of those paying agents who desire to re ceive credit for their redemptions through their correspondent. In the near future, we will change our procedure and credit the correspondent bank for the account of the paying agent by use of an 8-digit code number assigned to the correspondent bank. The code number of the correspondent member bank designated by the paying agent will be printed on all paid bond transmittal letters, Form PD 2639? which we furnish paying agents. In order that we may make the necessary changes in our records, please complete the enclosed Form FA 939 and return it to us as soon as possible. The completed card should show the name and location of the member bank which you wish to act as your cor respondent, and should be officially signed. Since we will be processing your paid bond transmittal letters by use of a number instead of a name, it will be essential that you notify us imme diately in the event you change correspondent banks in order that we may furnish you transmittal letter forms with the number of the new correspondent printed thereon. With respect to those paying agents who are receiving payment by Treasury check, it is suggested that they arrange to obtain credit for their paid bonds through a correspondent member bank. This will reduce the processing time and provide an im proved service to the paying agents. Agents desiring to continue receiving payment by Treasury check should nevertheless amend the enclosed Form FA 939 accordingly and return it to us.
