T Circular No. 3 1 8 1 "1

CHANGE IN POSTAL DELIVERY ZONE NUMBER
To all M em ber Banks and Others Concerned
in the Second Federal R eserve D istrict:

The United States Post Office Department has assigned Postal Delivery Zone Number 45
to the Federal Reserve P. 0 . Station. Accordingly, instead of using postal zone number 7 as
heretofore, please address all mail sent to our head office as indicated below :
Federal Reserve Bank of New Y ork,
Federal Reserve P. 0 . Station,
New Y ork 45, N. Y .

The use of this new postal zone number should expedite the delivery of mail matter
addressed to us, and thereby enable us to render service to you more promptly.
W e solicit the cooperation o f those banks which furnish their own supplies of envelopes
with our address printed on them in changing the postal zone number to 45 when new supplies
are ordered. The Post Office Department has advised us that it will make every effort to expedite
the delivery of the mail addressed to us bearing the old postal zone number, but has suggested
that, if practicable, it might be beneficial to use a rubber stamp impression of postal zone
number 45 on existing supplies. W e expect to take similar measures regarding our own
supplies of stationery and printed forms, but it may be some time before we can make the
necessary changes.
Mail sent to our Buffalo Branch should be addressed, as heretofore, t o :
Buffalo Branch,
Federal Reserve Bank o f New Y ork,
Buffalo 5, N. Y .

Mail intended for a particular department should be addressed as above and the name of the
department should be added at the lower left-hand corner of the envelope.
Whenever you send us a communication which may require a reply, please insert the
appropriate postal zone number in your return address on each such communication. When
ever you send us the application o f a third person for the issuance, exchange or redemption of
United States Government obligations, or any other communication requiring us to com
municate with a third person, please endeavor to have the appropriate postal zone number
included in such person’ s mailing address.
This circular supersedes our Circulars No. 2689, dated September 9, 1943, and No. 2721,
dated November 3, 1943, both entitled “ Postal Unit Numbering System.”
