These volumes present the research findings from the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank Check Study (AFCS). The AFCS is one of the three studies conducted in 1979-1980 to provide an updated description of America's check collection system. This research, conducted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, is primarily based on surveys (during June 1979) that sought data concerning check processing at a large, stratified sample of 343 commercial banks, as well as all 48 check processing facilities in the nation's 12 Federal Reserve Districts.
