Water backed up through the sewage system into the basement of the Bank to a depth of 3.5 feet. Water surrounded the vaults and a small amount seeped into the vaults through the combination locking devices. Some of the vault money did get wet and was dried by use of electric ironers for several weeks afterwards. picture Employees of the Louisville Branch pose with emergency equipment used during the great flood of January 22-February 3, 1937. The flood of 1937 caused the Louisville Branch at Fifth and Market to close. Twenty employees stayed in the Bank continuously for five days, without going home, to meet the emergency.
