Confirming our telephone conversations relative to
our vacant property between the Livestock Exchange Building and the
Pacific International building;
It is my understanding that you desire the piece of
land that lies between the highway and the alleyway connecting the
yards proper and the Pacific International building, less a strip
approximately 50 feet wide east of the roadway directly east of the
Exchange Building.
This piece of ground from our property line on
the east runs west 297 feet, and the measurement on the north and
south line is 254 feet.
This will include an area of approximately
1.73 acres.
We have agreed to lease this property to your organization
on a month-to-month basis at a rental of $30.00 per month.
It is also
our understanding that the effective date of the lease will be under date
of starting to use the property for dead storage, which we understand
will be for an indefinite term of several months.

Dear Sir:
In reply to your inquiry of March 27 you are advised that
comparatively few of the proscribed articles were delivered at posts
of this Department by the aliens affected by the proclamations men
tioned. For the most part, this property was delivered to local
authorities who had better facilities for its storage.
At our district headquarters in Medford are held a rebuilt
army rifle of foreign manufacture, caliber 8mm, serial 2028, and one
Champion 12 gauge shotgun, no serial number, surrendered by Joe Koenip.
R. 2, Box 222, Medford.
At our district headquarters in Baker George S. Kobayashi,
Pleasant Valley, surrendered a Winchester carbine, caliber .32 Special,
serial No. 1167010; a Model 69 Winchester rifle, caliber .22, no serial
number; a Winchester pump action rifle, caliber .22, serial 6536O8 ;
a Mauser automatic pistol, caliber 7.63mm, serial No. 338623, with holster;
a sword type knife, 16-3/4" blade, with scabbard; a 620 Eastman box
camera and an Eastman 3-A Folding Autographic camera; a small quantity of
ammunition.
At our patrol office at Ontario the following articles surrendered

Dear Mr. Prays
On January 3, 1942, the Office of the United States
Attorney, sent to all state and local Police authorities, a
notice calling their attention to the fact that the President
had, by his proclamations of December 7 and 8 , 1941, directed
in the interests of national safety that alien enemies should
not possess or use various items, such as firearms, weapons,
ammunition, short-wave radio sets, signal devices, etc. The
notice stated further it was necessary to require alien enemies
to deposit such prohibited articles with law enforcement agencies
and asked for the help and cooperation of the local police
authorities throughout the country.
Public Proclamation Ko. 3, dated March 24, 1942, issued
by J* L. Be itt, Lieutenant General, U* S. Army, carries a pro
vision that after Larch 31, 1942, no persons of Japanese
ancestry shall ’ave in his possession similar items.
Please inform us as to the amount of such contraband
now in your hnnds and also ny information as to the uantity
of contraband remaining in the hands of United Htates citizens
of Japanese ancestry will be greatly appreciated.
