Honorable W.G.Mc Adoo,
Secretary and Treasurer,
Washington, D .C .

Understanding as we do since the
enactment of the currency b ill, that you are
about to decide upon the numbsrs of regional
baks and their locations, we take the liberty
of writing you offering our suggestion and
desire t h a t b a
named as the
regional reserve crtyTif found upon investigation
by your Honorable body that facts as pertaining
to this City is founded*
Minneapolis is and always has been the center
•f this wide scope of territory including the
north3rn part of Wisconsin and extending to
the Rocky Mountains or Puget sound.
We presume that nearly every bank in the
above territory as outlined has one or the other
of the Minneapolis banks as thdi correspondants
and naturally at different seasons of the year
this city is called upon to supply funis needed
throughout this territory by the smaller banks
for developments of its particular territory.
Mostly all farm mortgages are sold and handled
through some Minneapolis firm and there might
be several other reasons why we would be led
to believe that this city would be our choice
as above outlined •
We trust that you will consider this
matter and that you will give Minneapolis a
carefull investigation before passing it uj
Thanking you in anticipation,

7 First State Bank of Coffee Creek,The se iiaf^t of thijis Club is overwhelmingly in f a vor of the
reserve bank which w i l l serve Montana^
being located at Minneapolis.
St. Paul would be the next
best point, but Montana does more of it s buying in Minne
apolis than in St. Paul and p ra c tic a lly a l l o f ’ i t s g e llin g
of agricultural products is done in Minneapolis, whereas
none of said products are sold at St. Paul except a very
l i t t l e liv e stock.
Our liv e stock is nearly a l l shipped
to Chicago as you undoubtedly know, and this leaves Minne
apolis fa r the most favorable location fo r our reserve
bank.
I therefore trust you w ill usettie-ggeat in
fluence of your o ffic e in behalf of ^ ^ S o T reserve bank

y Dear oir:I f consistent, this Bank would like to be placed i- Eastern Territo ry,

in connection with the reserve Bank a c t; I believe it w ill be to every Bank’ s a d v a n ta g e
in Montana, to be placed in tfinneap o ^ a or Eastern Territory, and especially a l l East
of the Rockies, in Montana, as at least nine tenths of our business is East, and
probably more.

Your kind consideration on th is ,

Hon .77m.G .'rcAdoo,
Secretary of the Treasurery, Washington D.C.
My Dear Sir:I wish to say that at this time♦ we would be very much pleased if you can
arrange to place this part of Montana, in the Minneapolis District, relative to the
Reserve Bank Act? If not in Minneapolis, at least in an Eastern territoryj there is
a movement on foot asking that Montana be included with some Western states, but as
nine tenths of all our business is East, if we v.ere placed in a Western District, it
would materially, affect our businessj I believe, I voice every Banker in the Eastern
part of Montana, and perhaps in the whole State, unless it would be some Yfest fif the
Rockies?
Your kind attention is respectfully asked to this.

Feb* 21, 1914.

The Honorable W. G. McAdoo,
Secretary of the Treasury,
Washington, D. C.
M dear Mr. McAdoo:
y
It had been rumored that p o lit ic a l
pressure has been brought to bear by certain
citizens of St. Paul in pressing th eir claim
fo r the location of the Central Northwestern
Regional bank there.
I
hope that such rumor does not have
back of i t any re al foundation.
P o lit ic s I am sure did not, have not,
and w i l l not, enter into the fin a l selection
of the location of,the Regional bank in te rrito ry
named.
However, merely as an o ff-s e t to any
p o lit ic a l pressure which may have been brought
to bear, I desire to quote you f r o m le tte rs
received since m a r r iv a l in Washington from
y
leading Democratic workers and prominent
business m
en in the state of Minnesota, a l l of
which endorse Minneapolis fo r the location of
the Regional bank.
P. M. Ringdal, Crookston, Minn.
The Democratic candidate fo r Govenor
of Minnesota, 1912.

The m above mentioned are a l l prominent
en
in Democratic work in Minnesota.
Secretary Bryan lias a personal acquaint
ance with every one of them, and I believe you
have met several of them yourself, alfeo other
members of the Cabinet.
I am confident that p o lit ic a l pressure
w i l l not even be considered in connection with
the location of the bank, as it should not be,
or any undue influence which may have been exercised
by those prominent in the ra ilro a d world towards
getting banks to cast th eir vote fo r the town in
which the heads of such ra ilro ad s are located.
This information is given not as a plea
fo r the location of the Regional bank, but merely
to o ff-s e t such p o lit ic a l influence which may have
been raised by others fo r the location of the bank.
Hespectfully, yours,

Hon. Secretary of the Treasury,
Washington,
Bear S i r : From news paper reports and other sources
we learn that the c itie s of Minneapolis and St .Paul
are both putting fo rth claims for the establishing
of one of the Regional Reserve Banks in these two
cfcties, and we therefore wired you today as follo w s:
"We favor Minneapolis fo r a Regional Reserve Bank,
because the flow of exchange and business from here
is naturally towards MinneapolisM
It is our opnion that this section of the
country ought to be represented by one ftf these
banks in the Twin C itie s, and it is also' our b e lie f
that Minneapolis is the lo g ic a l point of the two
and caji lay the largest claim to one of these banks;
i t transacts the largest elevator, grain, m illin g,
lumber, and farm implement business; it transacts
the largest banking business, both in volume and
in number of accounts carried, in fac t it is the
gateway to the great Northwest

Sir:
From our little experience of conditions in the
