Amsterdam,

June 13, 1914.

Herr Hugo Schmidt,
Berlin, Germany.
dear Herr Schmidt,

Permit me to take this first opportunity of conveying to you my
grateful appreciation for the many courtesies you and your associate directors
showed me while I was in Berlin.

It lv,4s given me much real pleasure to make the

acquaintance of so many of your officers personally, and I sh11 return home
feeling that our relations will be more personal, and certainly on that account
much more satisfactory, than they could ever have been had we not found this
opportunity for these pleasant meetings together.
There will develop, I feel sure, many matters in regard to which we can
correspond personally to our mutual advantage.

Two such matters

occur to me

now, and I am writing in advance of my return to New York, as your pans may be
progressing in the interval.

First. When Herr Bergmann establishes his office in New York I am
anxious that he be made to feel quite at home in his relations with us, and that
he make use of our facilities in all the various matters which will receive his
attention on behalf of your bank.
Had I known that this change was in contemplation early enough to do
so, I would have submitted the suggestion, which I made to you personally, that
he consider finding a.commodations for his work in our building, where I know
we could make him comfortable and probably by a very satisfactory arrangement as
to rental, etc.

The location is so central, and his facility on that account

for making use of our office would enable us to be of more value to him than
if he were situated further away.

This is a suggestion to have in mind for

the future, and I trust it may appeal to you and your associates at the proper time.

Herr Schmidt
