December 5, 1940. Dear Steve: The Chairman asked me to be sure that you got the enclosed copy of the talk he gave last week in New York before the National Industrial Conference Board in the course of one of their discussions, which they profess to have off the record. Unfortunately, however, a much garbled version subsequently made its appearance in the New York Herald Tribune and was widely copied. Consequently, the Chairman decided late yesterday to give out the text of what he actually had said. He thought you might, despite your crowded hours, have an opportunity to look it over. Faithfully, Elliott Thurston, Special Assistant to the Chairman. Honorable Stephen Early, The White House. enclosure ETrb THE WHITE H O U S E WASHINGTON December 7 , 19-40 My dear Mr. Thurstons Permit me, in the absence of Mr. Early, to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of December fifth, with the enclosed copy of the address made by Chairman Marriner S. I know he would want me to thank you, in his behalf, for your courtesy in sending a copy of the address to him. Very sincerely yours, Honorable Elliott Thurston, Special Assistant to the Chairman, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System, Washington, D. C.
