Dear Marriner: I had hoped to see you while I was in Washington and fully intended to keep my promise, made on the telephone on Monday, to call you later in the week. We got into a hearing that turned out to be a very strenuous one, particularly strenuous for me since I had to conduct it personally on behalf of our industry. We took testimony all day and spent every evening going over with our witnesses the following day's testimony. We didn't get through until 9:30 Saturday night. I called your apartment Sunday morning, but found you were out of the city. I didnft have any special business with you, but would have enjoyed very much a little visit. ing the way had Things broke so that I could run away from the hearTuesday at noon, which enabled me to join Mr. McKee and some of other members of the Board at lunch §d.th Sid Maestre and Mr. Hemingfor the Federal Reserve Bank presidents v h were in the city.
