My dear Mr. Eccles: The American Society of newspaper Editors would be honored to h&ve you as a speaker at one of the sessions of its annual convention to be held in V/ashington April 15, 16 and 17. Two years ago we had a most interesting noff the record” talk by I.Ir. D6nald Richberg at our in formal luncheon, and last year we had a similar "off the record” talk by Hr. Harry Hopkins. 7e would be most happy to have a similar frank and informal talk by you at the Friday luncheon this year. The date is April 15 and the length and character of the talk would be entirely of your choosing. May I hope to have your acceptance of this invitation at your convenience? My dear Mr. Oreager: I have your kind invitation of February liith to be a speaker at one of the sessions of the annual convention of the American Society of Newspaper Editors to be held in Washington April 15, 16 and 17. Barring some now unforeseen circumstance, I would take great pleasure in having the opportunity to speak "off the record" to your distinguished giroup with reference to Federal Reserve problems which are of particular interest to the press and to the gen eral public. It would be preferable for me to speak "off the record", as I understand others who have appeared before your Society in previous years have done, because I could then discuss more frankly various problems here without the necessity of preparing a set talk and of being as restricted as would be necessary if what I said were for publication. Please accept my thanks for your invitation, which I very much appreciate. Sincerely yours, M. S. Eccles, Chairman. Mr. Marvin H. Ureager, President, The American Society of Newspaper Editors, Milwaukee Journal, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. ISTjB
