Hon. Marriner S. Eccles, Chairman
Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
Washington, 9. C.
Dear Marriner:
I thank you very much for sending me a copy of the
letter of December 22 you sent Senator Byrd.
I had intended asking you to send me a copy of this
letter but had not gotten around to it.
In my very deliberate judgment, your letter to Senator
Byrd will have a profound effect in assisting the
•oublic in the correct evaluation of the efforts of
the administration generally and of the Federal Reserve
System in particular, toward permanent national recovery,
As a citizen, I am deeply grateful-for this contribution
in the public interest.
Sincerely your friend,

T. Alan Goldsuorough

January U, 1939•

Dear
It was very thoughtful of you to
trouble to write me your note of December
with reference to my recent reply to Senator
Byrcu Your favorable comments are, needless
to say, especially gratifying to me,
I felt that I could not remain silent
in the face of the Senator1s reference to me and
to others by the polite term of Mcrackpots11. Of
course my thought was not tnat I could persuade
the Senator to a contrary view, but merely that
the stimulation of discussion of the whole subject would be to the good at this time. lour
encouragement helps.
ftith kindest personal regards,
Sincerely yours,

Honorable T. Alan uoldsborough,
House of Representatives,
Washington, D. C.
