W ILLIAM J. KELLY S 7 5 7 WEST 6STH STREET C H IC A G O F e b ru a ry 24 , 1939 Dear Mr. Ecoless This is formally to thank you for your splendid cantritution to the Economic Club of Chicago last Tuesday night. You would be quite pleased to hear the comments about your sincere and forth right attitude — comments made alike by some who agree ard some who disagree with your views. It was very generous of you to come and we all feel very gratef\i1 to you. Cordially, Pre sident / Economic Club of Chicago Hon. Marriner S. Ecoles, Chairman Board of Governors Federal Reserve System Ifashington, D. C. February 28, 1939* Mr. William J. Kelly, President, Economic ulub of Chicago, 5757 Vnest 65th Street, Chicago, Illinois. Dear Mr. Kelly: Your very kind note of February 24, 1939, is naturally gratifying and reassuring, especially in view of the fact that I felt very dissatisfied with the presentation I made before the excellent audience which you assembled on Tuesday evening. I had spoken, as you know, in Detroit and again at luncheon on Tuesday in Chicago and in trying to compress the subject in the evening I felt that I had not done it justice. However, the question period, I thought, went some what better because it was particularly stimulating. I am grateful to you for your courtesy in arrang ing this meeting and I want to take this occasion to ex press again my appreciation. Sincerely yours, M. S. Eccles, Chairman. IT:b
