RICHARD FRANCHOT PATENT ATTORNEY CONSULTING CHEMIST MUNSEY BUILDING WASHINGTON, D. C. Jan. 20t1939 Hon. M. S. Eccles, Shoreham Hotel, Washington,D.C. My dear Governor Eccles:I take the liberty of sending you, enclosed, a copy of a letter to the Washington News which may get printed next week. My hope is, the letter may be of some slight interest in connection with your radio address scheduled for next Monday. In The News Saturday (tomorrow) there may be a letter giving a reaction to Senator Byrdfs radio address of last Monday, Jan.16. That letter I plan to clip and mail to each of the 96 senators. I remain anonymous,if you please. Personal publicity does not interest me. I do not wish to lose my present job. As may be suspected, I attend your school of thought; as a reformed republican. With your efforts to wake up America I am in complete accord. success, Yours truly, Incl. / Wishing you January 26, 1939 Mr. ixichard Franchot Munsey building > D. G. Dear Mr. Franchot: i wish to acknowledge and th#nk you for your letter of January 20th with i£s enclosure. Meanwhile there has appeared in the Washington News a letter ^to the Editor over the signature V6x Populi. This letter is very effective uid is a devastating answer to the editorial to which it refers. I think you have shown in a ypry clear and effective manner that homgly maxims do not solve our problems and in many cases do not even square with present day facts. But since they sound plausible to the casual reader they serve conveniently as a smoke screen for an inadequate argument. Thanking you for your good wishes, 1 am Yours sincerely, . 6.
