THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON

October 1964

Mr. Marriner S. Eccles
c/o Hotel Utah
Salt Lake City, Utah
My dear friend:
You are making good progress in the campaign, and
I am especially proud and grateful that you are putting
forth an extra effort#.
In this election, more than ever before, our Party1s
cause is our country1s cause. The center of American
life is being challenged by the fringes on the extreme.
As Americans, even more than as Democrats, we must
make sure that the cause of peace and freedom and
decency wins on November 3. Moreover, we must make
sure that the margin of victory leaves no doubt where the
American majority standsĀ«
I know that you and your fellow Democrats will give an
extra measure of effort over the next weeks and days of
this campaign. I am working, day and night, because I
believe this election is a turning point in our national life,
It gives me great strength to know that your campaign is
going on day and night, too. I know too, that you are doing
your utmost to make this an overwhelming election victory,
and I appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Lyndon B. Jonnson
